thots on spotify wrapped 2022
so i spent 36,467 minutes listening this year which is around 3k more than last year, and it would’ve been a bigger number had it not been for the fact that i lost one of my headphones and my other pair broke. blessing in disguise, some would say.
my “listening personality” (lol) is the adventurer/ENVU which stands for exploration, newness, variety and uniqueness, which is nice to know. i was pretty surprised at first - the number of artists i have listened to was also above 1k - because i feel like i listen to the same stuff over and over again, but like. alright
top tracks:
1. i know the end - phoebe bridgers
2. bags - clairo
3. feel my rhythm - red velvet
4. savior complex - phoebe bridgers
5. first love / late spring - mitski
okay so this is. yeah. i didn’t realize i had listened THAT much to i know the end, and the fact that it’s such an existential song which literally ends in a cacophony of screaming is hilarious to me, like why is this my most listened to song of the year. i’m okay i swear, i think i’m just a very melodramatic person who really needs to march into a forest and scream for a bit (this is a cry for help). the fact that bags is on here is also super funny to me because i actually started listening to it obsessively after i heard it in a rly cute byler edit i got super attached to. like way too attached. i think it’s still in my twitter bookmarks
top artists:
1. mitski
2. clairo
3. ichiko aoba
4. carly rae jepsen
5. taylor swift
this is mostly unsurprising. laurel hell by mitski was the only thing i listened to back in february and march, and i listened to her other albums p consistently throughout the entire year. i still listen to sling by clairo which was one of my favorite albums of 2021, and sling and ichiko aoba’s discography are p much my go-to’s for folk(aligned) music. i also saw ichiko live this year (!!!) so i listened to her stuff a lot leading up to the concert. and also after. i think carly would’ve been higher if the loneliest time had come out earlier and if my headphones hadn’t broken. i am a little surprised taylor is so high up. but i think it’s another case of her folk albums just being a go-to when i want to put on stuff that are soft to listen to
genres:
1. pop
2. k-pop
3. indie pop
4. rock
5. classical performance
very standard for me, except the classical stuff lol. classical performance being one of my most listened to genres is very funny to me. i listen to a lot of classical music because i play classical piano and sometimes i also put it on when i’m reading something for school but i hadn’t realized how much i’d listened to it lol. i feel like i listen to it as much as i’ve done the other years, but apparently not??? the other day i was eating dinner at my friend’s house and she turned on the radio which played all by myself because the day before had been single’s day and i was like “this song samples rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto haha” and they all just stared at me like i was insane
also thank god spotify lowered the number of genres this year, i think last year i had like 80-something genres, and now i’m down to 40. i’d still like to know what all of them are though. apparently one of them is yaoi which is just. god i hope it’s on mine
personal favorite albums of 2022:
1. laurel hell - mitski
2. CAPRISONGS - FKA twigs
3. the loneliest time - carly rae jepsen
i don't rly know what to say other than that these are really solid records!! i do have a few songs on CAPRISONGS which i skip, while the loneliest time is p much a no-skip album for me, but i think my favoritie tracks on CAPRI left a bigger impact on me than my favorite tracks on tlt, but it might also be because ltl came out later in the year so i've spent more time listening to CAPRI?? idk honestly. but both albums are very good.
as for my top 101 playlist as a whole, i PERSONALLY think it's a great playlist lol. sticker by nct127 is the lucky owner of spot #31 which is great. all of laurel hell is there EXCEPT that's out lamp which is kind of weird because it isn't a track i dislike at all but well. it is what it is. i also made the somewhat horrifying discovery that i had three different versions of say it ain’t so by weezer on my playlist and at first i thought it was just the covers by calpurnia (#37) and jbrekkie (#38) which was already hilarious in itself because they were right next to e/o, but then i kept scrolling and got jumpscared by the original weezer version at #94. the whole gang’s here haha :D (this is a cry for help part 2)

last year i made a prediction for this year's playlist and here's what i said: new mitski, otgw soundtrack (as always), spiderverse 2 soundtrack, new dean (not guaranteed, this is just me trying to manifest it). i'll probably also stick with some iu, bts and ichiko tracks that i tend to revisit a lot!! but generally i'm just hoping to discover lots of new cool music ^_^
i was right about 1.5 things lol. mitski was on my wrapped and so was iu and ichiko aoba, but iu only had one (1) track, and ICHIKO DIDN’T HAVE ANY TRACKS AT ALL… it’s super weird because she’s my third most listened to artist lol, but i think it’s because i tend to just put her entire discography on, so i’ve listened a whole lot to all of her music but didn’t repeat any tracks enough for them to end up on my playlist. i was wrong about spiderverse 2 on every level possible, idk why i for some reason had gotten it into my head that spiderverse 2 was dropping this year. IT DIDN’T. OBVIOUSLY. also the otgw soundtrack wasn’t on my playlist for the first time ever since it was put on spotify :0 it’s not that i didn’t listen to it, i did, i just didn’t listen to it enough for it to end up on the playlist. there was no new dean and no bts - there isn’t much kpop on my top 101, and what little there were, were all songs by girl groups except STICKER BY NCT127. it's funny bc kpop is my second most listened to genre, but once again, i believe i've just listened to a lot of kpop without having that many songs on repeat
as for predictions for 2023 i have no idea tbh. cheating by saying carly’s the loneliest time and stayc’s POPPY. otherwise, smth very cool and awesome and loser-core because who am i, if not all of those things <3
